Disneys Old Key West Resort

Disney's Old Key West Resort

Disney's Old Key West Resort!

We have been DVC members since 2008 and truly love it!  We try to make a trip every other year and typically stay at Disney's Boardwalk Resort.  Well, my son decided to join the Cast Member crew at Disney World and signed up for the college program.  He had to report January 15th, 2013.  Well, we had to make sudden reservations so that we could move him up there.  So, a trip to Disney World was in store...DUH!

Well, we didn't have any points and my wonderful brother stepped in and offered us the points.  He has been a DVC member since about 2005 or so.  We weren't able to book at the Boardwalk, nothing available so we settled for Old Key West.

Well, I'm so glad we did.  It is certainly hard to beat the Boardwalk due to it's location but Old Key West is a very close second.  We truly enjoyed it.

Fist of all, the Boardwalk is more of a hotel, and OKW is a neighborhood with condo's.  So you truly feel that you are in your vacation home when you stay there.  In a way that can be a little of a disadvantage because it's a walk through the neighborhood to get to the Hospitality House where all of the activities are such as the pool, bar, food etc.  But that's ok.  It wasn't bad at all.  The condo's were beautiful day and night as you can see by the photos below.  The rooms were huge!  We stayed in a studio and by far it's the largest studio that we have stayed in.

When you arrive, you park on the side of the Hospitality House and walk through the corridor outside to check in.  Its very convenient and much closer than the parking lot at the Boardwalk.  The Hospitality House is beautiful with rich dark wood floors that shine like they have just been buffed.  Off to the side of the check in area is a fantastic sitting area with couches and chairs to perhaps enjoy some coffee or soda.

Just outside is Olivia's Restaurant.  We were there a week and the smell drove me crazy.  When we finally had dinner there I had the burger that I had been smelling all week and it didn't disappoint.  The inside was a nautical theme and very nicely decorated.  They offer salads, chicken, steaks and that sort of thing.

Just around the corner is the marina and pool area.  You can enjoy shuffle board, ping pong, pool and more at the community hall.  They were really awesome to my 10 year old Adam.  He can't wait to go back.  It's his favorite place!

They have a quaint little bar and it's a nice place to meet folks from all over.  The bartender is lively and fun.  Really cool place!

The room was really large.  It had a large bathroom and a wet bar area with a microwave and a medium size refrigerator.  The beds were comfortable and the room was nicely decorated.  We had a small patio (first floor) right on the golf course.

Overall this was probably my second most enjoyable Disney World trip that I have taken in quite some time.  You have to take a bus everywhere, to all of the parks or drive.  But we were really there for my son and didn't spend much time there so it wasn't a big deal.

If you are considering the Old Key West Resort, don't give it another thought.  Book it now!  You won't regret it!
